Proven Leadership, Delivering Results for District 3

Commissioner Robyn West started on the Anoka County Board of Commissioners in 2007. She represents most of Blaine and Spring Lake Park, west of Highway 65.

Commissioner West graduated from Anoka High School in 1970. Following her years at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, she began working for Honeywell at their Solid State Electronics Center. She worked with the development of silicon chip technology in its infancy. She had the unique opportunity to work on the prototype of the self-focusing camera when Honeywell produced the Pentax camera...quite ancient technology from what we see today!

Commissioner West left Solid State Electronic Center to marry fellow Anoka grad, Jay West, and raise their four sons in Anoka County. When her youngest son, Nolan West, was a junior in high school she decided to delve into the world of local politics.

Commissioner West believes that a good commissioner cares for the people who live in their community. A commissioner must be a good listener and seek to find resolution to issues brought to their attention. Commissioner West does not forget she is elected to be a voice for her constituents.

Top priorities for Commissioner West are to continue lobbying the Legislature to provide funding to bring Highway 65 into the 21st Century. Also, related to having an up-to-date Highway 65, is maintaining an environment encouraging economic development, which starts with a robust transportation infrastructure. This allows for a thriving climate to build businesses and keep our residents working in Anoka county.

For 40 years, Commissioner West has invited many people into her home. Among her guests were exchange students from Sweden, Japan, and Korea. The Wests have also hosted missionaries on furlough. A wonderful opportunity they had was visiting missionaries in their homes in Haiti, India, and England.

She loves sewing and home decorating. Recently, with her sister-in-law, she sewed 27 isolation gowns for her son, Grayson West, as he re-opened his dental office during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Robyn is involved with numerous non-profits in Anoka County, including TPC ROSE women’s charity,

El Amor de Patricia Children's Home in Guatemala, and Anoka County Community Action Program.
